At the sparsely attended funeral of Brad Underwood’s father, he experiences an epiphany that he does not want to leave behind the same legacy. But that is exactly where he’s headed. Soon thereafter, Brad begins to experience unusual dreams of people beckoning him to a better place, a “nicer” place. Then the mysterious e-mails, text messages and cell phone calls start, all directing Brad through a day that will lead him to involvement with the F.B.I., possible terrorists, and a plot to assassinate the visiting President of the United States. With his long-neglected wife at his side, they will grow closer on this day than they have been in many years, as Brad also struggles to come to terms with his feelings for an alluring coworker who is inexplicably thrust into the middle of the day’s events.
Brad Underwood is devastated at the sparsely attended funeral of his father. Not a single person in attendance can come forward to say a positive thing about the man. Brad is headed in that very direction until soon after, unusual dreams begin with his attractive coworker, Miranda, beckoning him to come to be with “The Nice People.” But she is also sure to tell him, “Go be with your wife,” for she knows that’s where he hasn’t been.
Then mysterious and untraceable e-mails, text messages and cell phone calls begin, all directing Brad through a day when he will be involved with the F.B.I., possible terrorists, corrupt police, and a plot to assassinate the visiting President of the United States. But with these messages comes a caveat: Brad has only twenty-four hours to accomplish something that will bring hoards of people to his own funeral. Does that mean Brad is to die the next day?
With his wife Brianna at his side, they grow closer on this day of frenetic activity than they have been in many years. All the while, Brad must reconcile two things he cannot accept. What are his feelings for his alluring coworker who has been inexplicably thrust into the center of the day’s events? And who is that mysterious man who electronically guides he and his wife, along with the slow to believe F.B.I duo, through a day and night filled with harrowing adventure, murder, and redemption? His wife seems to know, but Brad’s denial is hard to crack. Can the man who was never there for him in life now be there to help him on this most dangerous of days? And is there another motive? Because Brad well knows that in life, nothing was ever done purely for the benefit of others.
